The last time US politics played as big a role in local politics was the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Grown adults like Brandon Bay, currently running for MPP in Carleton, were just kids and don’t really remember Colin Powell’s PowerPoint presentation or Saddam’s rat hole or that famous Mission Accomplished banner to say nothing of Shawinigate and how Jean Chrétien standing up to his American counterparts made Canadians appreciate him again.
And now I feel old.
In my weekly column I chat with Brandon about the race and what has residents in his area worried. Donald Trump makes a most unwelcome appearance but of course there’s health care and affordability so maybe we’ll be fine in the end and won’t need to fetch the priest and the holy water to regain a sense of control about local affairs.
I also have a wee bonus for you this week if you just can’t get enough Ontario politics.
